Fear or Purpose?

Yesterday I was watching Cricket, our fostered cat, explore his surroundings while cowering in fear.

He often shows interest in wanting to explore the outdoors and so, Jackie got him a large harness (that’s too small already, cause treats) and a leash, to take him outside when the weather is nice, like it was yesterday.

As far as I know, he doesn’t get out much because he was walking oddly, almost like a drunk, stumbling as he moved with noodley like arms and legs.

Jackie thought the harness was impeding his movement, even if mentally, and that’s when I got an ‘ah-ha’ …We’re all doing this right now!

We have all been placed in an ‘artificial harness’.

Quarantine is something we’ve all been forced to ‘try on’, and that sh*t has been uncomfortable, for everyone, period.

Watching Cricket moving in this new environment, slinking around, overly cautious and from a place of fear, because you could see it in his eyes, was an interesting microcosm.

However, I’ve seen this same little Cat who, when driven with purpose (eating/survival), is the most damned assertive cat when it comes to getting his food, and even mine.

Similar to humans in quarantine …

Except the humans in fear are ‘joking’ about the ‘Quarantine Nineteen’ …

Heck, I even posted a meme on our Facebook page about what’s gonna happen to some people at the end of this …They might not be able to get out of their houses, if they don’t social distance from their fridges and flatten their own curves …I digress.

I’ve also seen many of these same humans who believe their purpose right now is to post memes, articles, vitriol, and any other stuff that maybe makes them feel good, but may be less than useful to humanity as a whole, if it creates division, or lacks context.

Their views gives them their purpose.

Just like my views gives me mine, etc.

No need to argue all that, live and let live.

The issue is finding commonality, and a way to move forward in some way.

Undoubtedly, we all have experienced some fear during this, and that’s ok, it’s what makes us human.

Just make sure that during this time, you understand when you’re acting from fear, cause you will, like I have, and when you’re acting from purpose.

Being driven with fear will feel not good, like you’re being pushed to do something you don’t wanna, or will regret, while being driven from purpose will feel better, like you’re in control – it’s just harder to stay there because it requires proactiveness, not reactiveness.

My hope for those who have to remain in Quarantine a while longer, like those of us in Southeastern Pennsylvania, is they will continue to look for ways to improve themselves, to find what drives their purpose, instead of just reacting to the fear of our “harness”, because we all need to be better at the end of this.

Am I wrong?
