What’s the right decision?

Earlier this week I decided to stomp out some spotted lantern flies while I was on a walk through Center City with one of my best friends, who had come to visit this past weekend.

Every few steps he looked back to see if I had tripped …

I hadn’t, I was just stomping really loud because those suckers are fast.

Well, I came to understand my decision was unwise, because the next day I woke up and could barely move my right leg.

My hip flexor burned so bad, as did all my muscles in my right quad area, so I knew it was hurting, but probably not injured.

Reminder: That stomp technique was not good, don’t do that again.

The good thing was my buddy was staying a few days, and that enabled us to do some coaching because he wanted to learn how to ‘turn off’ his mind when he’s feeling stressed, like he was recently studying for part 2 of the CPA exam.

While I was hobbled up, coaching him gave me something else to focus on, and while my leg did hurt, I didn’t feel it when he and I were talking.

After a couple days, I was feeling better, and it came time for him to go home.

He said ‘John, you given me so many tools to use and I do feel a lot better, you always make me think and I knew you would listen to me about what is really going on’.

‘You’re good at saying what I need to hear and now that I have these tools, which one do I use first?’

So, I asked him which tool he felt needed to be used first?

‘Gratitude’, he immediately said.

Since that was what ‘came up for him’ and he didn’t have to think about it, it was from ‘his gut’ and in the moment, without all the unnecessary logic, it was real and he felt it, trusted it.

The first decision is the one that feels right, not the one you think everyone else wants you to make.

Which is hard to do for many, like my friend.

That’s ok, and he knows that and is willing to learn how to still be heard, without delivering his message in a manner that doesn’t serve him, or get him his results.

It’s always an inside-out job.

You want something you don’t have, you gotta look at yourself from the inside … out.

Where can you improve, show up better, and get a handle on your feelings and emotions, without ‘bleeding out’?

And all you have to do is make a new decision if you want better results.

Your decision will and can become your new belief, if you give the experience of your decision the meaning you need to the sustain the new belief.

Or …

Beliefs are decisions.

Beliefs come from the meaning we give our experiences.

If we make a new decision to have new experiences, we can give it new meaning and create a new belief.

It all comes back to the first decision – what feels right?

If you’re not sure, maybe some coaching will unstick it … let us know in the comments 🙂
