Energy Withdrawals and Energy Deposits

The other day I was chatting with a wonderful woman about our program here at Bair Knuckle Strength, and we got to talking about her performances in past triathlons.

She really loves the biking and swimming.

She was a former gymnast in her youth, swimmer in school, and biking is fun!

However … she HATES running!

Ugh …

I get it, I’m not the biggest fan, either.

It used to really hurt my joints, plus, it was hard and I didn’t like not being able to ‘just do it’.

It’s probably why I love weight lifting so much.

I digress.

This isn’t about me today.

What this woman was finding is that, working more on JUST running (and the other 2) wasn’t producing MORE results.

It’s been starting to produce more pain.

To the point where she knows she ‘needs a strength program too’!

So, this brings us to energy withdrawals and energy deposits.

Withdrawals pull energy out.

Deposits put energy in.

Kinda like a bank account.

Deposits are usually better 😉

Energy withdrawals would be things like running, biking, swimming and all the training necessary to competently compete without your body breaking down.

You’d also have ALL the work necessary to support that training, like meal prep, travel, planning etc.

Now, those are only training related withdrawals … and wouldn’t it be nice if that’s how life worked.

HA!

What about emotional withdrawals like: kids, family, spouses, friends etc, that still take your energy, without a lot of effort???

I think you get the point.

We all are pulled in a lot of directions and those are all usually withdrawals.

So, what about the deposits, right?

Here we go, deposits: Sleep

Seriously, Sleep more.

Ok, Ok, eating nutrient dense meals that support your training and lifestyle are also deposits.

Almost as crucial as sleep.

Massage, sauna, cryotherapy and recovery modalities of the sort are also ways to ‘give yourself’ more energy.

Hopefully this crude description can produce a visualization that lets you understand more about where your energy is going, and how you can get it back.

And lastly, I hope you noticed that nowhere in here did I mention coffee, energy drinks, legal drugs like ritalin, illegal drugs like cocaine or anything that acts as ‘fake energy’.

Coffee has some health benefits, and though I don’t drink it, I understand that one and have no issues when used properly.

However, if you ‘NEED’ coffee in the morning … you might want to look at that a little closer … because you could actually be leaking your energy.

The other stuff … well, let’s stay away from it.

If you can’t, get help.

Nobody to call?

Get your energy right  and make deposits that compound over time!

1. Podcasts

Some of the greatest insights and healing for me, have come from listening to podcasts in the last few years. This long-form type of communication, I’ve found, has been extremely important for understanding context, while learning how to make sustainable change.

That’s why I have started to find ways to get our story on some podcasts, and give you an opportunity to really go deep with us, and see what we’re all about. That way, you can decide if this tribe fits your personality. Click the link below to go to our podcast page, where you can find all our episodes!

Rise is the story of ‘never feeling powerful … to … never feeling powerless’. It’s about John Bair’s life, why he does what he does and how his suffering created happiness.

This handwritten book takes you through an intimate, yet, self-revealing journey, which allows you to implant yourself into the story, as it relates to your own, and reveal the steps you’ll need to take, in order to make change a successful reality.
