This is one of those times where I sit down to write and have no idea what’s going to come out, or even if I’ll want to send this …
I have some feelings that need to be expressed, and hopefully some constructive thoughts and ideas, that may be helpful to you – come out.
So, why has the fitness industry peed in my cheerios?
There’s plenty that can send me ‘batty’ … like all the ‘guru’s’, the misinformation, conflicting research, charlatans and scammers, bad programs, etc. … but that’s not what’s in my crawl today.
Maybe it’s not so much that I hate the fitness industry, but why I hate being in the fitness industry … yea, let’s see where that goes.
After having been in this realm for 24 years and 10 as a paid professional, I’m tired of having to convince people that their health ‘should’ be a priority and IS the most important thing (whether they value it or not).
Without your health, nothing is as good as it could be – relationships improve, you become a productivity monster, self-worth skyrockets, plus you become an overall happier and more enjoyable person to be around because you exude joy.
But yea, let’s not do that because <insert excuse>, right?
I guess it’s not up to me to convince anyone that health is key, because, that’s not really news, is it?
Maybe for some it is … or maybe they’re just so used to the crappy status quo, that they can’t imagine anything greater.
Or worse, have been led to believe that because they’re getting older they have to be more ‘cautious and fearful’ …
Of what?!
Death?
Um, news flash … it’s coming …
No need to live life waiting to die …
Live a fearful existence and you’ll never actually live, rather, you’ll live wishing you had not existed in fear … too late …
Which basically leads many to say things like “Why even try if I’m just going to ‘get hurt’ or ‘have to be uncomfortable'”?
This could all mean that maybe I just need to shed more light and work on educating people to convince them … but now I’m talking in circles …. ah, semantics.
So, what else is bugging you, John?
I loathe ‘selling’ people on why they should spend time and money on their health and fitness.
And the time thing is frustrating, plus total BS! … because people who say ‘they don’t have enough time’ are looking at things from one perspective … the wrong one …
They try and squeeze so much into their days/weeks that they don’t realize it’s THAT stress that is making them unhealthy by running themselves (and their kids) ragged like never before.
Kids these days are in too many things, and many don’t stop from the time they get up until sometimes 10 or 11 at night – this is not good.
Family dinners are a thing of the past and all the physical activity a parent gets is when they walk to the car to go drive their kid all over kingdom come.
“Hey you damn kids, get off my lawn!”
Lol … guess that’s what I sound like right now …
But seriously, where does it end?
Is it any wonder childhood obesity hits like a third of all kids, and three quarters of our population is overweight … why aren’t people making this connection?
I’ve got some theories that I’ll save for another day … hmmm, this ranting thing has benefits!
Next up on this rant … the money thing …
GRRRR!
I’ll just come out and say it … people need to STOP with the “I can’t afford it”, or “It’s too expensive” nonsense …
No it’s not … it’s just not important to you … say the truth instead, at least you’re being honest then … because we know if you had a kid who needed a life-saving surgery and the only way to get the funds was to beg, borrow, or steal … you would …
Now, I’m not talking about people in dire financial situations, with real struggles who are eeking by in life … I have empathy for them, because I know what that mindset is like … however, I also know you can exercise for FREE … so ….
I’m talking about people who pay no attention to the amount of frivolity in their life, spending on streaming services, happy hours, lattes, lunch out everyday, wearing expensive shoes and driving a beamer who tell me crap like that …
If you say you want to be more healthy and fit, but spend more on your Cable service than you do your health, you’re full of shit and you deserve your pain …
I mean, I’ll even go as far as to say that if you spend more on your car payment than you do on your health … well, I know your priorities 😉
Maybe you can afford both … sweet …
However, people will nickel and dime over $50 being the difference of joining a program here at Bair Knuckle Strength, but won’t think twice about all the other ‘non-ROI’ expenditures.
I don’t ever want to say I can’t afford it, rather, I’ll choose how I spend my money.
For example, I choose business coaching over fancy clothes, and high-quality home cooked food, over lots of nights out.
Just like people can choose to pay $200 for the best and most supportive holistic fitness program in town, or they can choose a cheaper option with less benefits and spend the difference on something else.
It’s a choice, so people should own it.
Of course, I’m still going to revert back to your health and fitness being among the top priority … (cause it is) …
By the way, if you can achieve all your health and fitness goals for free on YouTube, awesome, buy yourself something nice!
I suppose what frustrates me the most is that in wanting to serve others, I really just want them to ‘get it’.
I guess you can lead a horse to water … right?
I just want to shove the horses face in the water, however, I know that didn’t work for me …
I have to focus on creating an amazing healing space, where people feel comfortable enough to finally start getting really uncomfortable and doing the real work … the hard work … the work that matters.
I can do that AND be in love with the industry … or at least in love with what I do within the industry.
So, I invite you on to engage us at any level that works for you, whether you read our free newsletter, listen to our free podcasts, get our free content in the BADASS group, or you work with us on a deeper level in person or online.
I hope you got something out of that rant, because it sure helped me.

P.S. Here are 4 more ways you can become happier and healthier:
1. Podcasts
Some of the greatest insights and healing for me, have come from listening to podcasts in the last few years. This long-form type of communication, I’ve found, has been extremely important for understanding context, while learning how to make sustainable change.
That’s why I have started to find ways to get our story on some podcasts, and give you an opportunity to really go deep with us, and see what we’re all about. That way, you can decide if this tribe fits your personality. Click the link below to go to our podcast page, where you can find all our episodes!
2. Rise
Rise is the story of ‘never feeling powerful … to … never feeling powerless’. It’s about John Bair’s life, why he does what he does and how his suffering created happiness.
This handwritten book takes you through an intimate, yet, self-revealing journey, which allows you to implant yourself into the story, as it relates to your own, and reveal the steps you’ll need to take, in order to make change a successful reality.
