I was having a conversation with one of my students earlier this week and they informed me that they had been to the hospital this past weekend.
Wanting to make sure their health was in tact before pressing on with our session, I asked if everything was ok, and did we need to modify or omit anything?
The issue was that this student had issues with urinating and was admitted to help retrieve a healthy flow, while preventing any more backing up.
I pressed a little further and it was revealed that they had to hold their pee a long time while on a train ride back from the upper Northeast area, and the bladder had spasms and couldn’t ‘let go’.
Here’s where it gets a little, or a lot, interesting …
With a little more inquiring, I was told the reason for the trip was to confront a Cyber Bully.
Yep, can’t make it up.
Now, before you jump to conclusions, listen to the real story below …
This person was not the kind of person who ‘you might think’ would attempt something like this, however, when a person is pushed far enough, things happen … and I’m not judging, I admire the courage.
I’m also intentionally being vague about this, because that’s not something you tell someone unless you feel safe, which is important to me.
I’m leaving out certain details on purpose, without losing context of the story, as their is a valuable lesson in here for us all.
Back to the story ….
Being ever curious at this point, I asked what happened upon arrival …
Anti-climatically, nothing had happened as the other person ‘didn’t show’ and so, on the ride back, all riled up with no place to let that angry energy out, it had time to back up the ol’ bladder and cause a lot of distress to my student.
Again, I admire having the guts to want to confront anyone who is not treating you how you deserve to be treated, and so the following question came from a place of concern, not judgement …
I asked, “Would it have been worth it, after ‘the confrontation was over’?”
At first, there was a sense of, “Yea, it would have been”, followed almost immediately with, “You know John, you’re right … it would not have been worth it … Thanks for helping me with that clarity and feel better this morning, let’s get this bad feeling out in my session.”
The part of my job that I take the most seriously is to challenge your thinking, and have the guts to say the things that others dare not.
- Anybody can listen to you ‘whine’, and take your money.
- Anybody can get you sore, and take your money.
- Anybody can tell you to eat broccoli, and take your money.
I’m not anybody … I morally could not live with myself if I was a charlatan.
I believe it’s my job to make sure we look at all angles before we execute, or if we’ve executed, to look at the result and make sure we either repeat it if it got the result, or NEVER repeat it if it didn’t…
When someone puts their health in my hands: I look at how they think, how they move and how they eat, which will determine their results, period.
If they’re paying me a lot of money (because I’ve heard it’s worth it), they will get the results they desire because I GUARANTEE their results, even if it means I have to say things they don’t want to hear …
So, before you do that thing, ask … “Is it worth it”?
If it is … do it like you’ve never done it before 😉
