I hope you had an enjoyable weekend!
Depending where you are, you may still be in Quarantine, like I am where I live, and to be honest, it’s a lot like the days that are coming up.
Those “Dog Days of Summer”.
You know … the hot, sweaty, stifling type days that test your mettle, while really wearing you down mentally and physically, if you’re not prepared.
These days in Quarantine, they’ve been just rolling along, stacking up, and to me, have the same “mental effect” as really tough weather days like we’ll soon experience.
Because the ‘relief’ doesn’t appear to necessarily be in sight … which means we need to deal with it, well.
And too many people just stay inside during the summer (like they are during Quarantine) and never really get better, in fact, they get worse.
Don’t be the person who is afraid to lean into discomfort … because if you don’t, you’re forcing someone else to do it for you, and that makes you a liability … a selfish liability … don’t be like that.
That’s why I’m choosing to use this time as a way to prepare mentally, for what’s inevitably coming physically …
Here’s what I’m doing …
Hydration Journal – This one is a no-brainer, right? We all know our bodies are like 70% water, and when we pee, it needs to be clear or almost clear, right? It has to be common knowledge that water, other than air, is the most important element a human needs, right? And if you’re not tracking it, there’s no way to know if you’re getting enough, right? Even Bruce Lee said “Be Water, my friend” … are you?
Walking Everyday – Even though on the surface this is a physical activity, it prepares me mentally. Every day I go out, I’m getting conditioned to what’s going on outside. I don’t sweat as much as others in the heat, and I don’t shiver like others in the cold. I’ve learned to regulate my body, by leaning in to the discomfort of the extremes. Embracing them, rather than running from them. You can too.
Gratitude Journal – What are you grateful for? I am grateful for so much, that it’s pretty hard to complain about a hot day once in a while. Just like my Hydration tracking, I track my gratitude. When I notice myself getting snippy, or a little ‘short’, there is always a correlation to my lack of gratitude … meaning, if I don’t take time to write 1 to 3 things down, every morning, that I’m grateful for (like you reading this), it’s easy to fall back into crappy patterns where I focus on myself, instead of being present for others. It’s amazing how much better a hot day, or a bad conversation gets, when you’re not focused on yourself during it …
If I do those things consistently, then I know my summer will be productive and efficient, plus enjoyable … because I’ll know exactly how to handle myself in the most extreme of circumstances.
Do you have anything to add to the list?

1. Podcasts
Some of the greatest insights and healing for me, have come from listening to podcasts in the last few years. This long-form type of communication, I’ve found, has been extremely important for understanding context, while learning how to make sustainable change.
That’s why I have started to find ways to get our story on some podcasts, and give you an opportunity to really go deep with us, and see what we’re all about. That way, you can decide if this tribe fits your personality. Click the link below to go to our podcast page, where you can find all our episodes!
2. Rise
Rise is the story of ‘never feeling powerful … to … never feeling powerless’. It’s about John Bair’s life, why he does what he does and how his suffering created happiness.
This handwritten book takes you through an intimate, yet, self-revealing journey, which allows you to implant yourself into the story, as it relates to your own, and reveal the steps you’ll need to take, in order to make change a successful reality.
