Eating Enough to Lose Weight?

If you’re looking to lose weight, then you may look to do things to move you in the right direction.

Like including more exercise…

Or changing what you eat.

And this will work…but after a period of time, it may stop working.

So you may cut calories in order to get the scale moving in the right direction again.

But is this the right approach?

Sadly, it may not be.

I know intuition says ‘eat less, weigh less’, however, reality doesn’t work that way when it comes to your body.

Yes, taking in fewer calories will help you lose weight in theory…

But cutting them too low may actually have the opposite effect.

Sarah made me a pumpkin pie for my birthday this year and I got it on Tuesday afternoon this week.

I weighed 181lbs on Tuesday morning and ate half the pie that night, which I tracked because I have macronutrient numbers I hit everyday.

Half the pie actually worked for me, as it fit my numbers.

On Wednesday I weighed 178.4lbs.

You can literally eat whatever you want, if it fits into your numbers that you need to hit in order to maintain and improve your physique and energy.

You see, your body is very good at monitoring how many calories you’re eating and burning.

Eat too many calories, and it stores the excess as fat.

Eat too little…and your body rebels.

It may send signals to your brain to stimulate your appetite and encourage you to eat.

If you’re able to prevent your hunger and cravings from derailing your weight loss…

Your body may slow things down–making it harder to burn stubborn fat and lose weight.

And…

When your calories are too low, your body tends to conserve fat and burn muscle for energy—leading to a slower metabolism and higher body fat levels.

This is why it’s so important to maintain the right amount of calories to continue to fuel your weight loss.

Anything less than 1200-1500 calories may not be enough to fuel your activity, and the different metabolic processes going on inside your body.

Those are general, broad numbers, so please know they’re not set in stone.

The point is, you do actually have to eat enough of the right things in order for your body to keep muscle and burn fat … which is a great thing!!!

If you’re looking to lose weight…and you think cutting your calories even lower than they already are will work…there’s a good chance you’re going to be frustrated with your results.

You could track your calories, if that’s something you feel you’re ready for, or instead of tracking the amount of calories you eat, always include a lean protein, an easily digestible carb, and some healthy fats with each meal.

This will help you maintain a healthy calorie level—therefore encouraging more fat loss—and keeping cravings and hunger feelings away.
