Nutrition and Body Chemistry

I was talking with one of my students recently about nutrition and in fact, it was the same woman I had the conversation with about Self-Sabotage … hope you saw that post.

One of the reasons people sabotage their success sub-consciously is that they can’t see the ‘forest for the trees’, if you will.

If somebody eats for comfort, and they enjoy milkshakes, or whatever their ‘vice’, I can almost guarantee that nobody’s vice is broccoli … so, I don’t spend a lot of time telling people to eat it, or much of anything else, for that matter.

In fact, telling my mom to eat broccoli, might hurt her.

She has a pacemaker and is on medication in order to keep her blood flowing properly.

The vitamin K in broccoli does not mix well with her current blood chemistry, and because she has to take this medicine the rest of her life, broccoli is to be avoided for her …

Sure, sometimes I take people down a nutritional rabbit hole, and we get extremely granular about what they’re eating, based on their goals, like Janice, who told me on Tuesday that she has lost 8 total pounds since she recorded this: CLICK HERE.

However, the truth is that everybody knows what to eat, they just don’t do it … usually because they don’t understand when to eat what.

In my conversation with this woman about sabotage, we got on the subject of cementing change, even when it’s hard.

After sharing her recent experiences, I shared mine with her.

Getting back into the gym after losing my brother and cousin was a way to start ‘feeling strong’ again, and regain a sense of personal control over my destiny.

The problem was, I couldn’t lift like I did when I was young, because my body was beat up, and so, I had to find a different thing to pour my energy into, as I learned to rehab my body.

That thing was Nutrition.

Long story short, after focusing on it for a little bit, a few people I used to go to the gym with came up to me and said “Hey man, you’re looking good these days … and you’re not so angry, what are you doing?”

What I was doing, was being extremely ‘anal’ about what I was eating.

It was a big ah-ha moment, as it struck me that I was being viewed as an angry person, and by virtue of starting to eat better and be active again, that was changing.

As I got deeper into my studies, I learned certain foods cause certain reactions in our body.

The chemical process for breaking it down isn’t the same for every person who eats the same foods.

Which means foods can really affect your body chemistry and by nature of the close-proximity, effects your mental chemistry as well, making decisions really hard to stick to, when you’re always going through mood swings because your bodies hormonal processes are wacked …

My hormones and emotions were all out of wack, and by eating better, it changed me and solidified why I would never go back to eating like that person of my past, and sabotage my health with foods that hurt me.

So, how is your body chemistry these days?

I hope you’re feeling like you have control of your diet, your emotions and everything that ties them together.

Is there something that would help you get to a better place with it?
