Have you ever started a fitness program and at some point ‘life got in the way’ and you stopped?
Fair to say most people have probably done that, would you agree?
What were your expectations when you came back?
Did you expect to be able to undo however many months/years of negligence, in 6 weeks?
Have you ever disregarded the advice of someone you paid, who told you what you were doing may not be the best thing to do to get you to your goal?
Here’s why I ask …
I’ve had some past members and new potential folks who are interested in what we’re doing both in-person with classes, and Online, want to get started again after shutting it down for Covid, or some other reason.
And one of the first things that comes up is frequency of training, as in, they want to do WAY more than they’re capable of, and or ready for, or even need to do, because they want the results NOW!
I do have morals, and my first and only true deal breaker is: I will do no harm (even if you ask for it in the way of dumbass routines).
Seriously, I’m not willing to risk your future health, so that you can maybe drop an extra pound on the scale now.
That’s not what I signed up for.
I play the long game, which is the only game that works.
Some people have to figure it out for themselves, or pay the injury price.
Either way, no skin of my nose, I’ll still be strong and happy the rest of my life – without pain.
Unfortunately, there is this thing called the internet, maybe you’ve heard of it, where everyone in the world has a place to find information, even if that information comes from crappy sources.
So, after a long hiatus, some come to me with these asinine exercises they found on said internet, and want to do them.
Or, they saw the Rock flipping tires and some Influencer doing cardio on the ‘Gram’ (Instagram), so they want to ramp it up to their level on day 1.
This may hurt, but, you’re not the Rock.
You’re most likely someone who just wants to feel better, move well, be stronger, and look better with your clothes off, aren’t you?
So, the things you’ll need to make that happen, are NOT the same things the Rock needs, or some other Instagram Influencer, who is not you.
They’re not at the same point as you.
You’re not at the same point as them.
And unless you do all the research and trial and error yourself, you won’t get there on your own either.
They didn’t get there on their own.
They’ve had coaches.
Many, many, many coaches.
Who taught them what they didn’t know, so they didn’t have to learn it all by themselves.
So they didn’t get hurt.
So they got their results.
So, if you’re truly considering hopping back into a routine, and your coach tries to ‘break you’ on day 1 back, you honestly need to reconsider your priorities.
If health is a priority, I’m your guy and guarantee you’ll get healthier doing things the right way.
If short term rewards are the priority, and if beating the crap out of yourself for 6 weeks sounds more like what you believe works, I’m definitely not your guy.
Where do you fall?
